Over their grade 11 and 12 years, students must complete a total of six certifications. Some are Arts & Culture specific while others are required of all Specialist High Skills Major students.
Sector Specific Certifications (3 required):
Students may choose certifications that best fit their interests. Certifications offered will vary each year.
Some examples include:
- portfolio development
- technical staging
- instrument repair
- makeup / cosmetology
- training in a technique (e.g. figure drawing, conducting, opera)
- training in an art form (e.g. musical theatre, mixed media)
- framing and matting
When students join SHSM, they will be notified of upcoming certifications and what they need to do to participate.

On Friday, September 8 and Monday, September 11, 2017, Arts & Culture SHSM students took part in a First Aid/CPR certification. Students worked with professionals in an interactive workshop that provided the skills necessary to deal with real life emergency situations. Specific topics included;
-adult, child and infant CPR
-heat and cold emergencies
-managing bleeds;
-shock;
-fainting
